Cute Kids

I just had to blog about how cute my neice & nephews are!  I had to steal these pictures from other blogs because they are just so cute!  Here is my newest nephew Merrick Marquis born just a few weeks ago.  I haven't seen him in person yet since he belongs to my sister Melissa who lives in LA.  I'm going out to see him in June (I don't know if I can wait that long)

My step brother JD and his cute wife Mindy just had a little girl named Nashtyn (Nash for short)  She is the first granddaughter for my Dad & Lorie!  It was her blessing yesterday and she looked so adorable in her white dress. Here she is just hanging out with Max & Jack!  My adorable nephews who luckily live in Smithfield so I get to see them a lot!

*Not pictured but just as cute are my nephews Koebe, Jaxson, and Chance.  The belong to my step-brother Matt and his wife Kim.

Day 3 & 4

Day 3 was Sunday so we didn't do any sightseeing, just church and hanging out with Brad, Jill, and the kids. Also it was in the middle of the night on Sunday that I woke up with a really bad ear ache. I went to the doctor on Monday and sure enough I had an outer ear infection in my left ear. Yep I was sick for the WHOLE 9 days with a stuffy nose, ear ache, and a bad cough. Even though I couldn't breath and my ears were plugged so I couldn't hear I still had a great time (except I look sick in all of the pictures, so just pretend I don't look like I'm dying).

Here we are in front of the sign for the base where Brad lives & works (He is an orthodontist for the Air Force).  It was our home away from home for 9 days!

On Monday we drove to The Great Buddha Kamakura. It is a giant Buddha around 44 feet tall and was built starting in the year 1252.  The buddha used to sit inside a temple but the temple was destroyed by strong winds in 1334 and 1369. 

You were supposed to rinse your hands with the water so you were clean, I think some people even drink the water too, but not me!

Clark, Me, and "Boorynry" 

Her name is Brynly but the Japanese have a hard time saying her name, so it comes out like Boorynry.  Laura was hard too!  It those dang L's and R's

We don't know what is written on this stone, but we thought it was pretty cool!

Day 2

Our second day was Saturday and we spent it going around Tokyo and just sight seeing.  There are so many people everywhere and the buildings and houses are so close together.

This is a view of Tokyo from the Tokyo Tower.  And below is the Tokyo Tower.  It is basically like the Eiffel Tower, but I think the Tokyo Tower is slightly taller.

This is Clark in the Technology District in Akihabara.  

Sensoji Temple in Asakusa: This is the oldest temple in Tokyo built in 628.

  The building with the lantern was the entrance called the Grand Kaminarimon Gate.

When you take pictures in Japan you have to do the "piece" sign.  Everyone over there does the piece sign in EVERY picture!

This is Harajuku Street in the Harajuku district.  This is where the Harajuku fashion started (basically they wear over the top stuff just to be different).  We didn't see any Harajuku girls, but I found this picture online to show you an example. (Notice the piece signs!)

This is Shibuya Square.  I'm pretty sure it is the busiest intersection in the world!  The picture is a little dark.  We took it from inside the train station.  But you get the point.... people everywhere!  Can you spot the Starbucks and McDonalds?

Japan Trip Day 1

We left Utah on Thursday March 5 and flew to Portland.  From there we flew straight to Tokyo, Japan.  We arrived in Tokyo on Friday March 6.  The flight was long, but we did manage to watch about 4 movies each!  We each had our own TV screens and headphones so you could watch whatever you wanted.  I was able to watch Twilight (before it came out on video) and Slumdog Millionaire (which is a really good show, Clark and I both really liked it!  We weren't sure why it was rated R, should have been PG 13).  Anyway, Clark's brother Brad picked us up from the airport and drove us into Tokyo which was about a 2 hour drive with all the traffic and toll roads.  We met his wife Jill at the hotel, and then went to the Tokyo temple for the 7 p.m. session.  We were totally jet lagged and by the time the session started we had been awake for 24 hours!  I only fell asleep once during the session.... okay maybe twice!

The picture is a little blurry but how cool that we went to the Tokyo Temple!  Definitely worth it even though we were tired, and looked like homeless people :)  Oh and clark was sporting his mustache again... he shaved it off when a lady from Brad & Jill's ward mistook him for a Hispanic gentleman!

Technically our first day in Japan wasn't very long, but it was awesome!  By the time I post each day, this one will be at the bottom... Sorry you will have to start at the bottom and work your way up!

Grammar Test

While being in Japan we noticed that they do use English words sometimes.  Things weren't always in Japanese.  We also noticed that they misspell the English words!  We had a good laugh at this first picture!  Try saying RORD CLOSURE and you can't help but laugh.  Also notice the whole sign... look how they spelled inconvenience!  Classic.  How many misspelled words can you find?

This building was trying to say happiest paradise not happoest!  

I don't have a picture of it but when we went to the ski resort they had a map of the area and in the terrain park they had a "Harf Pipe"  instead of a "Half Pipe"  

 

I will have to post other pictures and actually talk about out trip, but I don't have time right now so maybe another day!
