We're going to Jackson

Clark had the Saturday before the 24th off and he had the 24th off so he decided to take Monday the 23rd off so we could go up to Bear Lake and take a day trip up to Jackson.  

Henry was pretty excited when we told him he would be going on his first road trip and would be crossing state lines into Wyoming.

We hiked around Jenny Lake because it was easy {being pregnant for 9 months and then having a baby makes you out of shape}

Henry loved the hike.  He slept for part of the time and when he was awake he was looking all around {see picture below}

straining his neck to look at something cool.  

It was overcast the whole time which made it nice because it wasn't too hot.  However all of those clouds rolled over the Tetons and as we started our way back down it started pouring rain.  Clark took Henry and basically ran the whole way back.  I slowly followed behind tripping over rocks and stubbing my toes.  I worried that Henry was getting too wet, but he didn't like having his head covered.  He wanted to look around and feel the rain on his face.  We were soaked by the time we got back to the car.  It was fun though!

Then we drove back into town to visit my cousin Sam who works up there.  It was so fun to see her and we bought some cute jammies for Henry.  Then we had dinner at The Merry Piglets.  Delicious Mexican food!  I highly recommend it.  I got the Mexican Caesar salad with fresh avocado on it.  Yum!

We didn't stay over in Jackson because lets face it, I did not want to spend $150 on a hotel room.  So we drove back to the cabin to sleep for free.

He loves grabbing his toes now.  He also looks like he has a uni-brow in this picture.  I promise he doesn't in real life.  And if he does I will teach him about waxing and plucking!

Tummy time champ.  Look how high up his little legs are.  He actually rolled over twice for me, but will not do it again.  He was on his belly and rolled to his back.  He is so close to rolling over both ways, but he just fights it.

My child has a love hate relationship with water.  He loves his bath, but hasn't decided if he loves the swimming pool yet.  Maybe it's just a little too cold.  

We call this face "baby fish mouth"  He will pucker his little lips and is usually blowing bubbles too.  If you have seen When Harry Met Sally that is where we got "baby fish mouth" from.  It is the scene when they are playing Pictionary and Meg Ryan's character is trying to draw "baby talk".  Classic

After swimming he is all smiles!  His hand is blocking his mouth, but he was smiling I promise.  Nowadays his hands are always in his mouth.  And he drools like crazy.  He wears a bib for most of the day.  

I just noticed that in most of these pictures he looks like a little redhead.  When he is out in the sunlight his hair has a reddish tint to it.  But somedays it looks brown, even a little blonde.  I'm not sure what color he will have.  

3 Months

I have the cutest child ever.  He is getting so big and it seems like he is changing everyday. 

He is normally very serious when he is outside.  I guess he is just taking it all in.  He must really enjoy the nice quilt that Great Grandma Emmett made him!

He is getting so good at holding his giant head up.  Sometimes his little feet will go high in the air because of how heavy his head is.  

Clark is already the "fun" parent.  Giving Henry rides around the backyard on the blanket. 

Facts about Henry @ 3 months old:

• We survived his first cold.  That thing was brutal and lasted a good 9 days.  The worst part was his congestion because he couldn't breath and I think the snot would just drip down his throat and then that would make him cough.  I finally got the NoseFrida to suck out all his boogers, but by that time his snot was mostly gone.  I'm glad I have it for the next cold, which hopefully won't happen for a long time.
• He has really started to babble and "talk" a lot.  He likes the sound of his voice.
• He went "swimming" for his first time. Once at Cherry Hill and once in the backyard.  He doesn't appreciate the swimming pool yet.  He does love his bath though.  
• He is kicking and wiggling at lot more.  He will kick his legs and push against the floor and move around.  Next thing I know he will be rolling.
• He loves to hold things in his hands.  My mother in law and I made a little blanket for him with ribbons all the way around it.  He loves to hold it.  
• He loves his thumbs and his Binky.  He still can't keep the Binky in his mouth by himself.  I may need to try a different kind.  
• He is eating faster which is nice for me!  
• Drools a ton and blows bubbles.
• Still likes/needs his naps during the day, although he is getting to the point where he tries to fight it and he knows when I'm trying to rock him or get him to fall asleep.  Lately I can rock him for a minute till he gets drowsy, then I'll just lay him in his cradle and he eventually falls asleep.  He does that better at night for some reason.  During the day he seems to fight sleep a little more.  
• Speaking of sleep, my baby is an awesome sleeper at night!  He sleeps until 6am now.  Sometimes he fusses around 4 or 5 but he either sucks his thumb or just falls back asleep on his own.  Today he slept till 7am!  I hope this will continue.  It has been happening for the last 2 or so weeks.  
• He sleeps from about 10pm-6pm then eats and falls back asleep until around 9am.  You would think I would get up and get ready before he wakes up at 9, but sometimes I sleep in right along with him!  I'm not always that lazy, but some days it is nice to just sleep.  
• Even though he sleeps a ton at night, he is still falling asleep during his 6am feeding.  What a sleepy baby I have.  
• I'm still nursing him, and I plan to nurse as long as I can during his first year.  I'm not sure I could nurse after a year old.  They just seem so big and are eating lots of other foods, that I will probably cut out breast milk.  But I guess we will see when I get to that point.  I really do love nursing.  Yes it is hard and sometimes during the day I think "seriously, it's already time to feed you again!  I'm too tired!"  But there is something about feeding your baby that is so special.  I really feel so blessed that I'm able to do it, and I don't have to use formula.  Seriously, the first 2 weeks of a baby's life is so hard!  I was just telling my mom the other day that I don't know how I made it through those first few weeks.  They eat non-stop it feels like and they sleep a ton during the day and not at all at night.  If I hadn't had those 3 days in the NICU with the nurses helping me with every feeding, I don't know how I would have figured out breastfeeding on my own!  Those mom's that do it without much help are awesome. I even took 3 breastfeeding classes!  One at WIC, one at the Hospital, and the little mini session they do before you leave the hospital.  I'm not sure if they do it in other hospitals, but in Logan they do and I think it is nice to offer all the new moms.  The things that helped me was that the first few days I pumped after every feeding so my milk came in.  I know that isn't always possible, especially if you have other kids to take care of.  But at least while you are in the hospital I would pump.  This might be TMI for some people (but maybe it will help someone, who knows) but I use a nipple shield (if you don't know what I'm talking about, click to find out) to feed Henry.  In the NICU he wouldn't eat because he was getting fluids through an IV so he wasn't super hungry enough to figure it out, so the nurses suggested I use the shield.  He latched on really well with it.  They told me to ween him off of it after a few weeks, and I tried a few times but honestly if he is eating well and it's not causing problems, I'm just going to keep using it.  It is annoying to have to make sure I bring it with me if Henry will need to eat.  I also have to wash it after every feeding, but that really isn't that bad.  The reason I'm writing all of this is because maybe someone out there who reads my blog is having a hard time with breastfeeding and maybe using the shield will help.  Or maybe with their next child it will come in handy.  I've heard people say using the shield can make the mother's milk supply go away, but I've never had a problem at all.  Okay, that was a long tangent.  Moving on.

I have to write everything down or I will forget it.  I need to start working on his baby book too.  So many things to get done, but when Henry is awake I just want to cuddle him and play with him.  And his naps don't seem to be long enough to get everything done that I want.  I just bought the book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" and I want to start reading it so I better stop blabbing and finish this forever long post.  

Clark and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary tomorrow!!  Woo Hoo we are experts on marriage now :)  

First Born

It's obvious that Henry is our first born and our only child.  It's also obvious that he is really cute.

Sweet baby

Apparently he looks like me when he sleeps.  He is starting to look more like Clark everyday though.  He has my blue eyes and maybe my nose but that's about it.   

He has been getting a little rash on his body after he eats.... It is so random, but it doesn't seem to bother him.  I put Hydrocortisone cream on it and it will go away eventually.  Not sure if I should be concerned.  I'll ask the doctor at his 4 month check up. 

He was 12 weeks old a week before he was 3 months old.  I'm still not sure how that works.  My next post will be his adorable 3 month pictures we took. 

He likes to look anywhere but at me when I want him too.  He is also doing the sign for the letter N.  He is so smart.  

He loves TV.  He will do anything he can to see the TV, even if he isn't facing it.

He is getting really good at Tummy Time and blowing bubbles.  

He's not all smiles all the time.  I was trying to get a good picture of his bottom lip, but of course he wouldn't do it.  He has the best sad face.  

Summer Lovin'

Summer has been good to us so far.  We haven't done much, but hanging out with the baby is all the fun I need.  We do have plans to go to Bear Lake and Jackson Hole for our anniversary and we are going to Wicked on the 24th!  We also have a couple family reunions and Melissa and the kids are coming to Utah at the end of the month.  Lots of fun to look forward to.  

Henry decided to get an early start learning the ways of the garage.  On this day he learned about sanding.  

 Independence Day

Henry didn't like the loud sirens from the fire trucks.  We were at the Kaysville parade and sat in front of the DATC and Henry and I sat in the shade not even down by the road and he was still upset by them.  He fell asleep shortly after.  

4th of July nap after our yummy BBQ.  Yep he is a thumb sucker.  It is great now because it helps him fall asleep on his own.  Ask me if I like it in 2 years :)

Waiting for the fireworks to start.  Henry fell asleep shortly after.  We know how he feels about parades and fireworks.  

He makes me melt like a Popsicle on the Fourth of July...

Clark bought Henry a swimming pool so we tried it out on the 4th.  Henry was not too impressed.  We had fun dressing him in his swimsuit and taking a million pictures, Henry was mellow and probably thought we were crazy.

The diaper was useless in the water so after we took it off, Henry's suit didn't fit so well.  He has a cute bum so it's okay.  

Sometimes I feel like all I do all day is take pictures of this cute guy.  My phone literally had around 200 photos on it.  

The flash on my camera startled him in this one, ha ha!  

Blessing

Clark blessed Henry on Father's Day (June 17th).  We decided to do it at Blaine & Carolyn's home since our church is at 9am and we had family coming from Logan.  We also hadn't been in the ward that long, and we felt like a blessing at home would be more personal. We sang an opening song "Teach Me to Walk in the Light" which I love.  I'm a sucker for Primary songs. Henry was a champ and Clark gave a wonderful blessing.  Then we had delicious food afterwards and just visited with family.  It was a very nice, relaxing day.  

Henry wore the little outfit Clark was blessed in!  Apparently those buttons were supposed to go in the back, but we thought it was cute like a little cardigan.  He looks darling no matter what!
