Henry 7 months

This was Henry on November 10th.  The actual day he was 7 months.

And we are done with the 7 month sticker.  Next month I'll have to put the sticker on his shirt and then put his shirt on.  Then he won't even notice.

Henry Bird

His hair was out of control this day.  He loves sitting up in the shopping cart like a big kid.  Just ignore that I forgot to put socks on his feet.

Henry had a quick play date with Adelaide while she was visiting from Arizona.  He loved playing with her cool toy.  Thanks Jenn and Laila for the fun!

She couldn't keep her hands off of him! She knows a handsome boy when she sees one.  Henry was intimidated by the cute girl :)

Some of Henry's milestones:

• Sits up like a champ and will start to lean forward like he wants to crawl or move forward but he isn't sure how.  
• Still loves to eat solids.  He tried beans for the first time.  He does not like them unless I mix them with something.  Last night I hid them in some sweet potatoes and I don't think he noticed. I just purchased some carrots and asparagus to make into baby food for him to try.  We will see how it goes! He has technically tried other things like spinach, beets, and blueberries but they were all mixed in with other things he had tried like bananas or sweet potato.  They are those fun little food pouches (I don't know what to call them.  The brand I have is Happy Baby organic.  Basically food on the go.  They are awesome for church). 
• He is in between sizes of diapers which is kind of annoying.  Size 2 are almost too small, but size 3 are too big.  I ran out of size 2 the other day and I had a bunch of size 3 from a diaper cake and shower gifts so I've just been using them.  They work fine, but sometimes he leaks because I think they are too big.  I went to the store to buy him some size 2 and they were out of Luvs size 2.  I don't like Huggies or Pampers, plus they are more expensive.  So I just keep using the size 3 (which are Huggies.  Maybe it's just me, but Henry leaks more with those). 
• He rolls onto his belly in the bath tub.  At first it was cute and funny because he will kick his legs like he is trying to swim. Now he will not stay on his back.  We have to hold him down.  He can be on his tummy, but I worry he is going to put his head down and swallow a bunch of water.  Which I guess would teach him to stop rolling over.  He is also really slippery in the bath tub so it's hard to keep him in one spot.
• He rolls all around when we try to change his diaper.  I have to distract him by singing silly songs, giving him the lotion bottle to play with, or any random thing that is near me at the time.  He just wants to grab everything and put it in his mouth!  I call him my little goat!
• He started having a snack of cheerios or those little puffs.  He loves them. When he sees the container the puffs come in he gets really excited.  Sometimes he does really good with getting them to his mouth.  He has the pincer grasp down, but sometimes the cheerio or puff gets stuck to his hand and he isn't quite sure what to do.  They are great for keeping him happy during church.  Can you tell we need lots of ways to keep him entertained during church!  He won't nap in our arms so he is awake ALL 3 HOURS!  Unless we can take him for a drive during Sunday School to get him to fall asleep.  But once you take him to class and people start talking, he is awake again.  He stays happy, but I can tell he is just so tired.  
• I think he "clapped" his hands the other day.  I was singing this song about clapping your hands and after I would clap, he would move his hands together like he was trying to do it.  He didn't actually clap, but he was getting the idea of it.
• He still babbles and screams/squeals all the time.  Doesn't sound like anything yet although I keep trying to teach him to say "mama" or "dada" or "ball".  Those seem like easy first words.  So far he just looks at me like I'm crazy! 

We love our little Henry (aka Henners or Henry Bird).  My sister came up with Henry Bird because his hair makes him look like a little birdie.  The NICU nurses called him a Spring Chicken when he was born and the other day in the grocery store some random lady made a comment about his hair and called him a baby chick.  Everyone loves the fuzz.  

Fall Festivities

On October 29th we finally went to pick out some pumpkins! Our friends Justin and Ashley came along too.  There was a cute little pumpkin patch out on Addison road.  They have a tractor that will take you across the street to the field so you can pick out your pumpkins.  There were so many different kinds of pumpkins, I wanted one of each!  

It wasn't that cold, but I felt Henry needed his little beanie to make it feel more like fall!

Halloween Day

We went to play group from 10:30-11:30 that day.  All the cute little kids were in their costumes.  I didn't even think to put Henry in his.  He wore his Jack-o-lantern shirt so he was festive.

That night we had pumpkin pancakes for dinner and when Henry went to bed Clark and I carved our pumpkins. Can you tell whose are whose? Hint: Henry's is the one with the little teeth.  We only had 5 trick or treaters, 3 of them were our cute neighbor boys across the street.  We had a lot of left over candy which sadly did not go to waste.  But I'm sure it went to my waist, ha ha!

This picture is out of order, but I didn't want it to be the first one people saw when they looked at this post.  It is kind of nasty.  We went to Bear Lake over the deer hunt (October 19-22).  Clark and his Dad each got a Buck.  I made Clark shave his mustache immediately after this picture.... okay not immediately after, but pretty close.

Baby Savannah's Blessing

We went to Utah on October 13th to be there for Savannah Jane's blessing.  She is such a sweet little baby.  I swear she is still so tiny.  I don't think Henry was that small on his blessing day.  She is chunky, but small. She didn't make a peep during the blessing and Tyler did a great job.  I remember he said Savannah would be the peace maker in the home. I'm sure she will have to break up fights between her crazy older brothers :)

Oh and for those who are wondering, Yes this is the little baby that was born in her parents car on the side of the road in Smithfield UT.  She's a local hero.... or is it her Dad that is the hero?  Either way, we are glad she is here!

6 months

I think it is starting to be the trend that I blog about Henry's milestones a month late.  At least I'm doing it, and sadly I'm not sure I will do it for the second baby.  Sorry way in advance second baby.  

Here is my growing baby.... 

Excited to be 6 months old

EVERYONE comments about his hair.  I'm not even joking.  Ladies in the grocery store, at church, in restaurants.  You name it.  People can't get enough of it.

Henry's 6 month Doctor appointment was switched to a week early so he was actually not quite 6 months so they said they couldn't give him his shots since the child has to be over 6 months.  If I had known that I wouldn't have let them switch my appointment to a week earlier.  Oh well.  I just took him in a week later just to get the shots.  He did really good this time and didn't act fussy.  He had a slight fever that night so I gave him some Tylenol and he was great.  Henry is such a trooper.  

6 month Stats:

Height: 27 inches

Weight: 16 lbs

Head: 17 inches 

I don't have the percentiles written down but he is in the middle on almost all of them.  I think his weight is closer to like the 30th percentile but head and height are around 50.  He is still growing so that is all I care about.  I just have to come to terms that I will not have a chunky baby.  But he does have some awesome hair!

• He is still loving solid foods.  He eats them 3 times a day after he nurses (which has become a challenge, but I'll get to that later). 
• Foods he has tried: baby oatmeal cereal, pears, avocado, sweet potato, peas, yellow squash, zucchini, bananas, and apples.
• He loves avocado, pears, and sweet potato.  I make my own baby food using the Baby Bullet.  I feel like it saves a ton of money because one sweet potato made a lot of food.  Avocado is hard because it turns brown after a day in the fridge, so Henry has to eat it for each meal before it goes brown.  He wasn't too sure about the peas at first, but now he will eat them.  I guess he wasn't too sure about any of the food the first few bites.  It takes him a few bites to get used to it.  He eats his solids really well so that is great.  Every time I feed him squash I will say "Henry do you want some squash" and then that makes me say "oh my gosh, I'm a squash" which is a line from the cutest book called "The Ugly Pumpkin".  I need to buy it but Barnes and Noble up here didn't have it.  My cute little niece Nashtyn had the book memorized last Fall and just hearing her cute little voice read the book made me love it even more.  It is definitely worth buying.  



• Henry started sitting up sometime in the last month and he does really well now.  He rarely tips over just sitting on the carpet.  I still don't let him sit up in the tub because that is a little more dangerous if he falls over.  He loves to just sit and stare out the window and play with his toy bucket. 
• He rolls all over the place, especially if he sees something interesting.  He just rolls right on over to it.  He loves to roll over to our coffee table and get the books that are sitting on the bottom.
• He still sleeps through the night from about 10pm-6:30am and then eats and goes back to sleep until 9am.  
• He has breast milk 5-6 feedings a day.  If he has 6 he will for sure sleep through the night, if he has 5 it is hit and miss.  So the past month he has been too distracted to want to nurse.  If he hears something he will want to look all around for it, if I sneeze he has to stare at me forever and figure out what the noise was, etc... So I decided I would just pump and feed him a bottle which was working out great until I noticed my supply was drastically cut in half.  So basically he went from getting 5 ounces to like 2 or 3.  It was bad.  So after much stress and asking the "experts" which are my facebook friends I decided to take an herbal supplement called Fenugreek and so far it is working great.  Henry will nurse great at 6:30am and then after that it just depends on the day.  But I can pump and get enough milk.  Plus with the 3 feedings of baby food, I don't think he will starve.  But for awhile there I thought he might.  I was being very dramatic one day and I said to Henry "fine, if you want to end up in the hospital because you are malnourished then that is just fine with me!"  Ha ha my poor baby.  I can get a little dramatic sometimes.  Luckily Clark is still married to me after he has seen me be a crazy mom.  
• As you can tell from my previous bullet point, he is getting very "active" and interested in everything.  I guess I shouldn't say active because it's not like he is crawling, but he just wants to touch everything and put it in his mouth.  He kicks his legs and sticks his arms out when he is excited!  He will sit in a shopping cart and his little arms are out the whole time, he loves it.  

We love Mr. Henry and are so happy he is in our family.  I've been calling him King Henry lately because he rules the household.  Whatever Henry wants, goes.  But at 6 months thats how it should be!  You can't spoil a baby :)

A little bit of Twin Falls

I have a lot to catch up on {Henry's 6months stats, Savannah's blessing, Fall activities} but today I thought I would blog about random things that we have been up to.  

You may not know, but Twin Falls does not have mountains.  People try to tell us "sure we do!  We have the south hills".  Well the south hills are exactly what they sound like... hills.  A few weekends ago we decided to take a drive to said hills.  I wanted to see some fall foliage and Clark wanted to see some mountains.  We kind of found both... 

I found some yellow leaves and once you drive a few miles up the "canyon" you start to feel like you are in the mountains.  Just not Utah mountains.  It was a nice little drive and Henry slept through most of it.  

This is our humble abode.  Can you spot Henry?  So far we like our little rental.  We have squeaky wood floors and our kitchen has zero counter space, but for now it is working just fine. The kitchen and bathroom have been updated so that is nice.  Our neighbor is a cute little 94 year old lady named Mary.  She's great.

Henry loves to be outside, and for awhile there we still had 80 degree weather in October.  So I put him in the bumbo and we sat on the front steps.  He found his shadow, and couldn't take his eyes off of it!

Then he found the flowers and his shadow was old news.  

Basically Clark goes to work everyday from 8-5 and I stay home with this little nugget!  I love being able to stay home, but I think I may need to find a part time job just to help with expenses.  If we didn't have our dumb student loan payments each month I think we would be fine.  I'm glad I have an education, but geez, paying for it sure is annoying.  I may have a job lined up for the first of December so that gives me a month to find someone to watch Henry for a few hours each day.  Having a job will make me feel like I'm contributing to paying for bills and what not.  I have been trying to be frugal and I cook dinner most nights, Clark usually comes home for lunch, and we hardly go out to eat.  But having a little extra cash will be nice.  I'm not sure if I will actually be able to leave Henry... who knew it would be so hard.  Hopefully I can find someone awesome to watch him, then I won't be so nervous.

I have a new calling in the ward!  I am an advisor for the Laurels in the Young Women.  So far I really like it.  I've had to teach and of course I was super nervous all week, but it went well and there are only 2 Laurels and they are super sweet girls.  I go to mutual every Wednesday night so that gives Henry and Clark some father-son bonding time.  I'm so glad Clark is so helpful and willing to keep Henry for a few hours each week.  I guess on Sundays when I teach they have more father-son bonding time.  I'm sure they both love it!  

I've met a few more girls with kids in the ward.  They are having a Halloween play group tomorrow so we are going to try and go.  We went to a pumpkin patch yesterday with our friends the Casperson's to pick out some pumpkins.  I'm not sure if we will actually get around to carving them since Halloween is tomorrow.  Maybe that will be our activity on Halloween!  If not, they will make cute "harvest" decorations on my front step for a few more weeks.  

Henry and I are sitting outside getting some Vitamin D and it is seriously so warm!  I can't believe all the crazy weather happening on the East Coast.  I love the pretty white snow, but I don't think I'm quite ready for cold, winter weather just yet.  So far Twin Falls weather is a lot more mild than Utah weather {besides the wind.  This town is windy}

Grandma comes to visit

My mom came for a visit September 21-23 and we were excited to have her.  I would say she was our first official visitor.  Clark's parents had been to our house, but that was when they were helping us move so they weren't really visiting they were working!  Twin Falls isn't the most exciting town so we took my Mom to do the most "touristy" thing here.  We went to see the falls.  There are actually two different falls here in Twin.  We took her to see Shoshone Falls.  The other is actually named Twin Falls, but I haven't been to that one yet.  

After Labor Day the falls aren't as majestic I guess you could say.  They don't let as much water over the falls during the fall/winter time.  Spring is the best time to see them and there is water covering all those rocks you can see.  I guess you can feel mist from the falls certain places in town.  Sorry Mom, you can come back for Spring Break and see them when they are raging!  Can you spot the kayaks?  They were climbing up that rock and jumping off.  I shouldn't say rock because I bet it was a 50 foot jump.... we will call it a cliff.

so Clark HATES the name Nana instead of Grandma.  He won't allow our children to call my mom Nana, even though that is what the other grand kids call her.  I'm not sure why he has such a strong dislike to Nana.  What happens when Henry says "nana" instead of "banana".  I'm not sure if Clark will allow it, ha ha!  My husband is funny.  So when Clark isn't around I say Nana, when he is around I say Grandma.  Poor Henners will be so confused.

Before the falls we went to brunch at a place called The Depot Grill for some good hometown cookin'.  For those from Kaysville, it is similar to Granny Annie's (formally Doug & Emmy's).  Clark loves that kind of food, although he said Granny Annie's is still better.  After the falls we came home so Henry could eat and sleep.  And so my mom could sleep, ha ha!  That lady loves an afternoon nap.  Maybe it is because she is a school teacher so she is always busy busy.  After the naps we took advantage of my mom's Costco card and took a trip to buy some baby wipes, Gatorade, and a new Shark steam mop for me!  I love it because it has a setting for wood floors which I need for the house we are renting right now.  Then we went out to eat and came back home so Henry could eat again.  Clark and I had some errands to run so we left Henry with my mom and went on a "date" to Lowe's and Home Depot!  So if you come to Twin Falls we will take you to see a waterfall that doesn't have much water and we will go to Costco.  Party!  I wanted to go to a little farm called Tubbs Berry Farm, but we ran out of time.  In the fall they have some fun activities going on during the weekend.  I will need to go before Halloween to get some pumpkins!

Sunday morning we got up and went to Sacrament and then came home because my mom needed to get on the road.  Plus Henry needs a nap about 20 minutes into Sacrament meeting and he won't sleep in our arms so going to Sunday School is not an option.  That is when we drive around so Henry will fall asleep then we carry him back in hoping he stays asleep and we catch the last part of Sunday School.  I'm not sure how that is going to work when I am in Young Women's and Clark gets a calling that keeps him busy too. 

We are glad my mom was able to come and visit.  Henry loves having visitors!  Mostly because then he gets to sleep with Mom & Dad and that means he doesn't have to sleep and we have a slumber party all night long :)
